Excess uric acid may build up due to certain physical conditions, a poor diet or medical conditions. The kidneys are responsible for filtering the uric acid but if the kidneys fail to filter sufficiently then excess uric acid is forced into the blood stream, a condition known as hyperuricemia. The uric acid is carried around our body in the plasma, plasma also carries minerals and nutrients. As soon as the plasma reaches the body parts that are lower in temperature the uric acid separates from the blood and creates needle like crystals on the joints.
